Ice Beach

My friend and I went to Sandy Hook yesterday to see what a winter beach was (well, presumably this wasn’t a new thing for her given that she’s from Michigan and has lived in Jersey for the last two and some years). Weirdly, it was kind of like Death Valley in the winter – icy windwhipped sand in slow rolling dunes. The ocean itself with it’s tiny breaking waves was a small part of the landscape. Hard to believe given the evidence here and there of Hurricane Sandy’s devastation; proof of the power of a sleeping behemoth. Here are some photos –
